I assume that this only includes US based collectives ... and how did you make the choices as to who should, and should not, be included?
No although the tournament field is comprised of mostly US collectives, there are many non-US ones. In fact, one of the #1 seeds is not form the US. Selection was based purely on my interest in the collective and is not meant to be objective in any way - I'm not sure such a thing would be possible or desirable given the intended humor of the post.
Some non-US collectives in the tournament:
IC-98: Finland
raketa: Sweden
NSK: Slovenia
N55: Denmark
Terraza: Argentina
Oda Projesi: Turkey
WochenKlausur: Austria
Szpilman: Germany
program angels: Germany
YNKB: Denmark
Rum46: Denmark
Stalker: Italy
There are a couple more, but you get the picture. Roughly 20% from outside the US (many of them top seeds), but I obviously am going to be more familiar with the work of groups based where I live..
thanks for responding, and for your note ... I wasn't worried about objectivity, but nonetheless I should probably have looked deeper into the list before replying ...
thanks, in turn, for providing me with a long list of available collectives - very useful.
cheers ...
This is elitist class crap. People involved in this are ego driven sycophants. Pseudo intellectual word droppings, with no substance. Try to sound and look good even if you bite the heads off babies or put sticks in galleries. How can this be worth a nanosecond when you must be funded somehow, removing funds from useful projects or people. What about refugee awareness? That is a useful thing to get involved with. And if this is funded through corporations, then you are exploiting peeps and consuming crap while having zero credible independence. Might as well get a job in Starbucks. Pretentious ..... I think so. There are not many less admirable qualities.
This is opinionated criticism, but if you remove it then you may be quelling very useful discussion. Do you not feel the artsworld is self-absorbed mutual back patting rubbish. If so then lets discuss. Maybe a better future is available to us.

lets have more opinionated criticism of this kind of stuff.... the arts world is mostly full of elitist shit... my web site is one of the ones on the list and I only found out cause i got an email this morning telling me I was being put in competition against other sites. I dont want to be pitted against other websites ....
Re: Corporate funding
The tournament only sought one corporate sponsor - Bernadette Corporation, and we haven't heard from them yet...
And by the way, I hope you stole your computer, internet access, and electricity from a military base so that you're really sticking it to "the man." Otherwise, you're just wasting more precios resources. And why are you wasting a nanosecond critiquing this when you could be using it to empathize with those who are suffering?
Lighten up.
hahahah, what do we win if we win and how do we win? I'd like to kick some ass but I'm not interested in basketball.
And put me on the elitist snob killlist. Thanks.
What the hell? Who did the ranked the seedings here with Wooster Collective at 15 and Temporary Services as a number one seed? There are going to be some major upsets.
I'd rather be elitist than the member of a humorless art collective. GO MTAA!
this is great, but no Guerilla Girls? and no Bernadette Corp?
It's true, I blew it concerning the Guerilla Girls. However, as you might note in my previous comment, Bernadette Corporation was not overlooked. I attempted to solicit their support as a corporate sponsor, but never heard back from them.
Can we start a betting pool online? I do bet the MTAA will win. I would also bet for eyebeam if they were listed. I like this listing, it's not elitist at all...for me the metaphor for the competition reads more like the t.v. show "Pros vs. Joes". haha! Nice to see a mix of grass roots collectives with more established institutions.
You must be psychic, or following the NCAA tournament closely since that is how I determined winners and losers so far. MTAA (George Mason) has made the final four as a number 11 seed! The other three are:
Instant Coffee (University of Florida - a three seed)
Oda Projesi (LSU - a four seed)
16 Beaver (UCLA - a two seed)
I will be posting an updated bracket soon.
